Road Closures in Big and Little Cottonwood Canyon

Many Canyon residents know how hard it can be to travel up and down the canyon when there are a lot of road closures.  Little Cottonwood has it's own separate system with 'Interlodge' but those living in Big Cottonwood canyon are often left with inaccurate infomation as to the proposed opening and closing of the canyon road.  Well may be that time has come to an end! I just recieved this letter from the Sheriff's department:

"We have been recently placed a link on the Sheriffs Office web site  that will enable both residents and visitors in Salt Lake County to sign up for real time traffic and road closure updates. Those that sign up for this service will have notifications sent directly to their text enabled cell phone or email devices. The notices will inform subscribers of impending closures and openings of both Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons literally 24 hours a day."

"When the Sheriffs Office becomes aware of impending closures we will immediately email/text the information to those that have subscribed so that travel decisions can be made before and during a snow event. These notices will be delivered any time day or night. This may seem extreme, and some will find the early morning and late night notifications bothersome, but we feel that timeliness is extremely important. We have heard the complaints of residents that awaken and find themselves trapped in their neighborhoods during road closures. As well as visitors who have traveled significant distances and spent large sums of money only to find they are trapped in a traffic jam at the mouth of the canyons. We hope that by being informed the night before or even early in the morning people can begin to make arraignments that will ensure they can get to and from their important events with as little disruption as possible."

This is great. I've been building out a ski mapping website at: http://www.flexmappers.com/arkade which, among other things, provides up to date road conditions. I'll have to provide a link to this great service. Thanks for posting it.
